Inspired by the transformation of a superhero, VEE offers ABI employees a private space to refresh, monitor their health, and “ready themselves to fly.” It is the physical manifestation of a two-decade commitment to the belief that every employee deserves the tools to own their well-being.
In the bustling corridors of corporate leadership, health is often discussed in spreadsheets—utilization rates, premium renewals, and absenteeism metrics. But for Richard Sun, the Vice President for Corporate HR of Asia Brewery Inc. (ABI), and ValuCare leadership, the future of wellness is not only found in a report. It is also found in VEE.
The recent launch of the ValuCare e-Health Experience (VEE) at ABI marks a significant milestone in Philippine corporate wellness. ABI is among the first in the country to adopt this technology, but the story behind its arrival is nearly two decades in the making.
VEE is a self-service health station for employees to check their vitals.
Every HR leader knows the challenge: employees are very busy. Between back-to-back meetings and deadlines, a trip to the company clinic for a routine blood pressure check feels like a luxury few can afford.
But there’s a deeper, more compelling barrier that the team at ValuCare recognized. “Not a lot of people are comfortable seeing your nurses, knowing that your BP has been going a little above normal for the past five days,” noted Franz Araque, ValuCare’s Chief Operating Officer.
This “white coat syndrome”—the anxiety of being monitored by a medical professional—often leads to employees avoiding the clinic until a minor issue becomes a hospital-grade emergency.
A solution? Empowerment through self-service health checks.
VEE is a private space. An employee walks in, spends a few minutes checking their vitals and walks out. The results are synced immediately and directly to their mobile app. There is no judgment, no waiting room, and no anxiety. Just health data, delivered directly to the employee.
While the technology is cutting-edge, the foundation is old-school trust. The launch celebrated a partnership between ABI and ValuCare that has spanned 19 years.
“…as with our innovations in healthcare service delivery, I also evolved and grew together with you,” shared Dr. Elmer Palomata, ValuCare’s Chief Executive Officer. He reflected on the days when he visited ABI as a supervisor conducting wellness lectures and stress management sessions.
To him, VEE is the “physical manifestation” of years of negotiations and shared commitments.
The launch at ABI is only “Phase 1.” ValuCare Chairman Moses Hee likened VEE to a roadmap that transforms from a monitoring station into a mini clinic. While keeping proprietary details under wraps, the vision is clear: moving beyond basic vitals into a personal diagnostic ecosystem.
It is a pivot from reactive healthcare to proactive life management, ensuring help is available through a “virtual gateway” of teleconsultation and advanced checks before a health trend becomes a hospital emergency.
As ABI HR Executive Richard Sun looked across the room at his HR, Benefits, and leadership teams who made the launch possible, the sentiment was clear: this is for the people. He encouraged everyone to take advantage of VEE thru their regular self-checks, so they are able to timely seek medical help whenever necessary.
For other corporate giants watching ABI’s lead, the message is equally strong: the future of wellness is not about telling employees to be healthy—it is about giving them accessible tools to choose health for themselves.
In an era where social governance is under the microscope, ABI and ValuCare are proving that caring for your people is the best investment you can make.
