Some Places Change You. The DSWD Sanctuary Center Is One of Them.

December 18, 2025

The DSWD Sanctuary Center is a place of quiet strength.

Located inside the WelfareVille Compound in Mandaluyong, it stands as a refuge for women who have lived through loss, neglect, and long seasons of uncertainty.

The women who call the Sanctuary home are adults aged 18 to 59. Many were abandoned.
Some were rescued from the streets. Others lost contact with their families and had nowhere safe to return to.

All are women with improved psycho-social conditions, ready for healing, care, and a chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.

The Sanctuary is a 24-hour residential care facility. But it is more than a shelter.

It is a home.

Here, the women receive daily care, proper nutrition, and health services. They are supported by caregivers, house parents, social workers, and mental health professionals. Programs focus on healing the mind, restoring confidence, and strengthening life skills.

They are guided through homelife routines. They learn simple tasks that bring structure and independence. They join skills training such as sewing, gardening, housekeeping, and basic livelihood activities.

There are moments for recreation, celebration, and spiritual enrichment. Each day is designed to help restore self-worth and prepare them for reintegration into society.

When ValuCare visited the Sanctuary on December 8, the experience felt deeply personal.

For ValuCare COO Franz Araque, it was a return to a place that shaped him.

Years ago, he walked these same halls as an intern. He helped care for residents facing extremely difficult life situations. Coming back, and seeing the mission continue, moved him to tears.

“This place stays with you,” Franz shared. “It teaches you empathy, patience, and respect for lives that have been through so much.”

The residents welcomed the team with a performance filled with joy and energy.
It set the tone for the day.

“For us, this is not just a company activity,” shared Chief People Officer Erika Denice Castillo. “It’s a reminder that we are all connected. When we extend help to others, we don’t just lighten their burdens—we enrich our own hearts.”

The visit was part of ValuCare’s CSR initiative, spearheaded by the Human Resources team. Throughout the day, moments of connection stood out. Shared smiles and quiet conversations.

Erika expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff and administrators of the DSWD Sanctuary.
“You are the true heroes,” she said. “Your dedication and compassion give these women comfort, hope, and a chance to begin again.”

As the donation items were turned over, Erika shared a reflection that stayed with everyone present. “True success is not measured only by what we achieve,” she said.

“It is measured by the lives we touch and the light we bring to others.”

Hopefully, our small service made a meaningful impact in their lives.

As we move deeper into the season of compassion and gratitude, we are reminded that helping does not always require grand gestures.

Sometimes, it begins with giving what we can.

The visit was also attended by ValuCare President and CEO Dr. Elmer Palomata, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Atty. Roselle Perez, and Medical Director Dr. Cristian Dela Cruz, together with members of the HR team. The CSR initiative was spearheaded by Talent Acquisition and Employer Branding Specialist Louise Rospelos, with support from HR Manager Meg Sampang; Talent Acquisition and Employer Branding Specialists Des Gardoce and Jeth Saubon; Talent Acquisition Specialist Danica Venenciano; and HR Specialist Shy Pioquinto.
